Designing a new approach for the general public

Driven by the digital market, Legrand now wants to develop connected products around sustainable development and energy savings. So my challenge was to design an application to optimize energy consumption in the home for the general public.

My positioning

To carry out this project, I tried to put myself in the position of a novice user who does not necessarily know the technical terms of energy but who still wants to educate himself and above all who wants to control in a quick and easy way.
I chose to make three very different applications that are a bit different from what Legrand does. Indeed, Legrand, which is very product-oriented, approaches the digital world with its engineers in a rather classical, technical way, intended for professionals. So by making three applications, some classic, some unusual, I proposed to bring the general public closer to the professional world.

The process

When I arrived, workshops had already been held to understand the target and the desires. Thus "promises" have emerged such as "program your desires", "override quickly and easily", "be informed of the state of the house", "visualize your consumption" and "gamify energy issues". So I had to make an application that relies on its promises. I, therefore, designed 3 applications:

Classic

The first is in line with the graphic charter and is a variation of the applications already used by Legrand. In this application, the user will be able to customize the home page according to the equipment connected.

3D visualisation of the house

The second application is a 3D visualization of the house so that the user can easily find his way around and be less lost with complex technical data. In addition, if the user follows the advice given to him, he can receive vouchers for connected products and thus improve his home.

Virtual assistant Eliot

The last one is an application with a virtual assistant so that the user can educate himself in the field of energy in a playful way. He can also familiarise his whole family.

Afterward, I was able to have the applications tested in more workshops and user tests.
Today, other interviews are being organized in France and Italy. Thanks to the users opinions, Legrand will choose between these versions or a mixture of the three.
