Design of a voice assistant for MAIF
The challenge was to create a voice assistant to improve the relationship between the members and MAIF. We decided to work around the handling of a breakdown or a road accident. Indeed, road safety is a real problem for society, 3259 people lost their lives on the roads of France in 2018 and there were 58,613 bodily injuries in 2017.
The Tancrède voice assistant
Tancrède is aimed at MAIF customers who are road users and want to be taken care of quickly in the event of an accident. Tancrède is both a mobile application and/or a stand-alone smart box. The voice assistant includes simple instructions and informs the user about the conditions of his breakdown. It can also contact the emergency services after detecting an accident.
An intelligent voice assistant
Voice assistance deals with different situations: Following a breakdown, Tancrède understands the cause through a series of simple questions. It tells the user whether stopping the vehicle is more appropriate than calling a tow truck. In the event of a minor accident, the box or the application detects it and identifies the need to send help or to direct the user to a garage if the damage is significant. Finally, in the event of a serious accident, trancrède detects and analyses the critical condition of the driver and passengers and alerts the emergency services quickly.
The Tancrède application
The application is easily accessible so that in the event of a breakdown or minor accident, the user can activate it quickly. The interfaces offer only a few very distinct interactions, with always the possibility of contacting Maif’s assistance service or the emergency services. Moreover, Tancrède is a passive device whose usefulness lies in its ability to reassure the user after a disaster. Daily, Tancrède will not appear if no disaster occurs.
After any type of accident, the victim is potentially in a state of shock. Channeling this state is a challenge that a voice assistant could take up by explaining the situation in a rational way. It was, therefore, important to determine the interactions that would be useful for the proper functioning of the Tancrède application, to determine the tone of the assistant and the simplicity of the interfaces.
Ambiance of the application
Tancrède has some key interactions. By using high contrast, the important blocks can be distinguished from the rest of the interface. To simplify reading and understanding of the interfaces, the colour palette has been simplified.
Setting the context for a breakdown
In the event of a breakdown, the user triggers Tancrède and describes his situation in a few questions. The application tells the user whether he can continue to drive or whether his vehicle must be stopped.
Setting the scene in a minor accident
With a few simple questions, Tancrède determines the severity of the disaster and alerts the emergency services in less than a minute.
Setting the scene in a serious accident
After the detection of a disaster, if the user does not respond to Tancrède’s calls, the emergency services are contacted after a short delay.
The Tancrède box
The box can be used as an alternative to the application. To meet the same functionality, the object embeds a light system without a screen as well as a speaker module.
The box must respect certain constraints. First of all, in everyday life and in the extreme majority of situations, our object must remain as discreet as possible. When an unfortunate event occurs, it must become as visible and audible as possible. The device can take on the role of a black box. The information gathered could accelerate the expertise process and simplify the constitution of a file. Finally, the "on/off" function should not exist.
